A line-by-line budget for a 100 pound dog in the Phoenix metro, including the numbers people forget.
Money is the second most common reason dogs come back to us. Here are honest Arizona numbers.
Monthly running costs
Large breed food runs $70 to $110. Flea, tick and heartworm prevention for a 100 pound dog is $30 to $50. Budget $150 to $250 a month all in before anything goes wrong.
Annual vet care
A wellness exam, vaccines and bloodwork lands around $300 to $500. Add a Valley Fever titer if there is any cough or limp.
The emergency line
Bloat surgery in the Valley runs $4,000 to $8,000. Orthopaedic repair is similar. Either carry insurance or keep a dedicated fund.
Training
Group classes start around $200 a course. Private work with a guardian breed trainer runs $100 to $175 a session. Most Corsos need some of this.
Gear that lasts
A heavy crate, a well fitted harness, a strong lead and chew proof bowls are a few hundred dollars up front and then rarely again.
